Quarter 3

What was the activity: The activity was a graded chapter comprehension test about the book "Killing Mr. Griffin" by Lois Duncan. We had to answer questions in full sentences and in details. I had to talk about the plot of the story and describe specific details in the book. I also talked about the characters, events, and my feelings towards some events. We did error analysis when the teacher graded the test. What was its purpose: The purpose was for Mrs. Butler to have proof that her students

Heteronormativity and Indexical Reference

In her dissent from the court's ruling that legalized same-sex marriage, California Supreme Court Justice Carol Corrigan, appointed by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger in 2005, explained that even though the marriages should not be legally sanctioned, "In my view, Californians should allow our gay and lesbian neighbors to call their unions marriages." Leaving aside the wondrous temerity of allow, think for a moment about what a reader will do with that our. Is that really what she intended to ass

Pontevedra has a Guardia Civil barracks down by the river. Driving past it last week, I was struck by how easy it would be to lob a bomb over the wall a couple of meters from the road. Or even from the adjacent pavement. This week the Basque ETA terrorists tried something rather more ambitious up in the north east. According to the media, they attempted to massacre not just GC officers but also their families. They didn’t succeed but, sadly, one officer was killed in the process. The fear is tha

Introduction to C

posted on Sat, 17 May 2008 00:32:02 -0700

Introduction C is general-purpose, structured programming language, developed by Denis Ritchie in 1972 at Bell lab USA. Its instructions consist of terms that resemble algebraic expressions, augmented by certain English keywords such as if, else, for, do and while. In this respect C resembles other high-level structured programming languages such as Pascal and FORTRAN. C also contains certain additional features, however, that allow it to be used at a lower level, thus bridging the gap b

I had to repost the comment I left for Formosaneijia regarding his post on "traditional vs mixed" arts because it led me to an a-ha regarding the direction I am seeking: I agree with the “third fork” that taijiquestion offers but in a different way. The mixed MAs or “cherrypickers” as it were, if I may borrow from my basketball playing days, do pick and choose but I find they most often only pick and choose from another style that may be technically different but not necessarily different in t

Author, author!

Author, author! May 17th, 2008 Well, it’s official. Or almost official. Monday, May 19 is the actual “pub date” for my book, The Nonverbal Advantage. Except that from now until the end of the year, I will be donating massive amounts of time and energy traveling around the country promoting the book. I look forward to it! And, by the way, I got a great review from John McF
